Imagine basking in the warm sun, toes in white powdery sand and a wonderful beach butler coming by asking what drink you would like next. It is pure heaven and it is a short plane ride away from the United States. It is only a short 2 hour and 10 minute plane ride away from my backyard in Houston, TX. The Riviera Maya is about 30 minutes south of the Cancun Airport. I generally (unless a client asks specifically to stay in Cancun) place my clients in the Riviera Maya. It is quieter and the resorts are more sprawling compared to the high rises in Cancun. You can walk about 500 feet and have your toes in the sand. #1 Secrets Maroma Beach
Adults Only All Inclusive
Maroma Beach is one of the top 10 beaches of the world. The incredible baby powder sand on this beach is pure bliss. The resort features incredible restaurants and a world class spa. Splurge on a swimout cabin where you have a lazy river waiting for you right from you balcony. As a food snob, I love the food options here and the fact that the restaurants do not require reservations.
#2 – Azul Sensatori
Family Friendly with an Adults Only Section
This is the perfect place for a destination wedding! If you have adults that will join your wedding that are not ok with a rousing game of Marco Polo at the pool, there is an adult only section as well as a family friendly section. It is truly the best of both worlds!
#3 – Excellence Riviera Cancun
Adults Only Resort
This beautiful resort is located in Puerto Morelos which is a little closer to the the Cancun airport. Incredible food and views await you at this fantastic resort. The consistent review on this resort is how wonderful their food is.
#4 – Panama Jack Resort
Family Friendly Resort
This fantastic family friendly resort is located in the heart of Playa del Carmen. If you would like a lot of city life near your doorstep, this is a fantastic option for you. Within walking distance you can be on the famed 5th Avenue enjoying world class shopping.
#5 – Secrets Capri
Adults Only Resort
The Secrets Capri is a little more fun and light hearted unlike her spa focused sister Secrets Moroma. This resort is a little closer to Playa del Carmen which gives you a excursion option to enjoy Playa del Carmen or to take the ferry over to Cozumel. Or, just enjoy the many activities available to you at the resort.
