Imagine you have flown across the country and you arrive into paradise, Jamaica. You are excited to finally get off the plane and you head down a very long hallway that seems to go on forever and then… bam. You see lines and lines of people. You see people queued up on ramps, and in lines for kiosks and in lines for customs agents all trying to get into Jamaica to begin their respective vacations. It is not a good start to your vacation, right?

Luckily in Jamaica, you have a choice to bypass the crazy long waits in the custom line! Club MoBay is a service that gives you an escort and essentially a “fast pass” through customs and immigration upon your arrival in Jamaica. When you purchase your Club MoBay passes, you will want to do it well in advance of your day of departure  because there is a chance the passes will sell out. There are limited passes to control the amount of people going through at at time.

What do I get with my Arrival Club Mobay pass?

Upon your arrival, there will be a representative to greet you with a sign with your name on it. They will then take you through immigration and customs. After your expedited trek through customs and immigration, you will be escorted to the VIP lounge which features unlimited free wifi, complimentary snacks and beverages, private restrooms with changing facilities, and newspapers and magazines.

What about when I leave? Do I get access to the VIP Lounge?

There is a pass for the departure as well! With the departure pass, you get fast tracked through immigration and security, access into the VIP Lounge where you can relax and get a bite to eat before you head back to reality. They also feature a fantastic indoor playground for the kids. Complimentary alcoholic and nonalcoholic beverages are included. There is free WIFI as well as shower facilities to freshen up before your long flight.

What is the cost for these services?

You can purchase the Arrival Pass only or the Departure Pass only or you can bundle the passes for a wonderful round trip experience. The cost for the Arrival Pass is $50 per adult, $25 per child (ages 2-12) The Departure pass cost is $30 per adult and $20 per child (ages 2-12). The bundled cost is $80 per adult and $40 per child (ages 2-12).

Heather, you have told me what it is and how much it costs, but do you think it is worth it?!

I, personally, visited Jamaica in December of 2018. I walked off the plane, so excited to see my cousin and get my vacation underway and I hit a wall of people. I saw people standing on ramps, I saw people standing in kiosks and I saw people being directed to speak to the agents at the immigration booths. I set my timer to see how long it would take me to get to the agent that I was directed to. It took approximately 45 minutes.

While I was in line, I saw multiple Club MoBay pass holders pass me up, heading to the separate line just for Club MoBay pass holders. I stopped a Club MoBay rep to see if I could purchase a pass there and she told me that they were sold out at that time. Please keep in mind that this was a Saturday at the beginning of December. Can you imagine how much longer it would have taken if it was a Saturday or Sunday in summer or around Thanksgiving or Christmas?! The time I waited could have been doubled. I think that the pass is very much worth it if you want to get your vacation started as soon as possible. I think it is great for families with little kids. It is fabulous for honeymoon couples who want that extra VIP experience. I think it really depends on you as a traveler and the vacation you want to have. For me, since I was a single traveler not in a hurry, it was not worth it to me at this time. But I can see if I was traveling with my husband and daughter, that I would probably want it to get our vacation started as soon as possible. Also, to save my nerves from a whining 3 year old. 🙂

I do want to note when you get out of customs and immigration, it can be quite confusing trying to find your particular transfer company or your particular hotel chain lounge. I do believe having the Club MoBay service would help alleviate that confusion.

Club MoBay is a awesome feature in Jamaica and honestly, I wish that other countries offered the same service. I think it is a minimal cost to take your airport arrival and departure experience from tedious to fabulous!
